Homework
The GAP program has high expectations for our students. Our students are
given many advantages toward their education. We expect students to
dedicate one hour of every evening Monday through Thursday to homework.
Homework Rules
- Students are responsible
for their planner. This includes transporting it between home and school
each day, as well as writing each day's work into the planner. Parents
should check the planners and sign them weekly.
- Students
should start from the top of their planner and work down for their
homework. That priority order is Language, Math, Science, Social
studies, and last any projects.
- We know that students
work at different speeds. If the student has not finished after being
focused on their homework for one hour, a parent should write a note in
the planner or on the homework sheet with the amount of time spent. The
unfinished assignment with parent’s signature will be counted as
complete.
- Planners are one of our parent communication
tools. Parents feel free to write notes or questions in the planner.
Teachers often write notes to parents using the planner. It makes a
great communication record for the year.
- All students should spend 20 minutes reading daily to practice their fluency and comprehension.
