To encourage student
responsibility and accountability, GAP classes use an economics system.
This system rewards students for good behavior, grades, and attendance,
while allowing for suitable consequences for missing homework, class
disruptions, or poor academic performance. We add in the
responsibility of having students earn a salary for doing a classroom
job, and paying rent or purchasing their desk. With their accumulated
riches, students participate in auctions for prizes.
Tickets:
All
tickets must be signed by parents and returned to school within 3
school days of receiving the ticket. If not returned the student could
receive additional tickets or lunch detention.
Red-Homework:
The
homework ticket is for missing or incomplete homework assignments,
forms, planner signatures, or late tickets. These tickets have a $50
fine.
Orange-Behavior:
The
behavior ticket is for disruptions, disrespect, dishonesty, or poor
behavior. The fine for a behavior ticket can range from $100-$400
depending on the infraction.
Pink-Uniform:
The
uniform ticket is for not following the Crane District Uniform Code.
Students may get this ticket for untucked shirts, inappropriate
clothing, etc. The uniform ticket has a $25 fine.
Green-Super Star:
The
green ticket is for good behavior. Rather than handing the student $100
in cash, we want parents to see that their student is doing a good job.
For green tickets students receive $100.
Jobs:
Students
serve many jobs in the classroom. Each GAP student applied for a job to
earn money. These jobs may include the following: Banker, Janitor,
Secretary, Librarian, Clerk, Cafeteria Worker, Police Officer, Techie,
and many more. Each job has a unique salary based on the labor intensity
of the job.
Rent or Purchase?
Monthly
rent of a school desk is $1,000. Students can buy their desk for $3,000
and not pay rent for the rest of the year. What is the best deal? Many
students take greater advantage of purchasing their desk by purchasing
several desks and becoming landlords. Parents, this is a great
discussion to have with your child to decide whether to rent or
purchase.
Auctions:
We
typically have auctions four times a year. Students with extra money
are able to bid against their classmates for auction items. We greatly
appreciate any donations families can make for the auctions.
