Back to School Night

This is a great night to get general information about the Gowan Achievement Program.  You will get to meet with and know more about your student's homeroom teacher.  Though many of you are very familiar with GAP we encourage you to come and hear about changes, potential field trips and fundraising.  We will have GAP apparel forms and information about homework.  Back to school is a busy and public time, so it is not the place to have a specific conversation about your student.  If you have specific questions or concerns about your child, please e-mail or call to set up an appointment to meet.

Welcome To Gowan Achievement Program

The Gowan Achievement Program (GAP) is designed to offer students who meet or exceed the Arizona state standards more in-depth education, technology use, and a community of involved learners. The program is located at Rancho Viejo School in the Crane School District. GAP serves the top students in grades four through six, based on the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) and teacher recommendation. Our program started in August of 2007, with three teachers and ninety students. With the help of The Gowan Company, students have been provided technology, learning tools, and educational experiences that surpass the typical school day for a Crane student.

As we begin the fourth year of the program, GAP students continue to thrive in a supportive learning community where science, math, and technology are emphasized along with language arts and social studies. Our student group has grown to ninety-six students. The GAP students and teachers have participated in several philanthropic ventures including Penny Pitch, Diabetes Walk, Jump Rope for Heart, and Relay for Life. GAP students continue to meet educational challenges that will help them develop into critical thinkers and responsible, productive citizens.

First Lego League

This year GAP teachers will coach three teams of seven students each in the Body Forward season of First Lego League.  Students were shown a video and got to participate in a demonstration by middle school students who participated last year.  All GAP students were given an application.  The completed application is due at our parent meeting before Back to School Night.  If you have questions call, e-mail or visit www.USFIRST.org.
